BrockGym for Android Privacy Terms of Use Legal notice
In short: no account, no server of our own, no ads. Your training and body data stays on your device. BrockGym reads data from Health Connect only if you allow it, and does not pass it on. The app counts anonymously which features are used; you can turn this off in the app at the very bottom of this page.
This privacy policy applies to the BrockGym app on Android devices (obtained via Google Play). The iOS version has its own privacy policy. This is a translation; the German version is legally binding.

BrockGym is a training log that works without a user account and without a server of our own. Your training and body data is not transmitted to us, and we have no access to it. The app shows no ads and does not use an advertising ID. The only things that reach us are the anonymous usage figures described in section 7 and emails you send us yourself.
The app’s own protected storage area contains: your training plan, completed sessions, sets with weight, repetitions and RIR, notes, morning weights with trend, body measurements, your training locations with equipment and weight increments, and your goal and coach settings. In addition, it contains the details from the setup: name, year of birth, training experience in years, body weight and, if you enter it, your body fat percentage. The year of birth is used only to estimate your maximum heart rate for the heart rate zones.
Other apps have no access to this storage area. If you uninstall the app, Android deletes this data along with it.
BrockGym takes part in Android’s data backup. If you have turned on backup to your Google account on your device, Android automatically backs up the data from section 3 and the app’s settings, encrypted, to your Google account. On a reinstallation or on a new device with the same account, Android restores them; they are also carried over when you move from one device to another. The values imported from Health Connect (section 5) are excluded: they are kept in a separate storage area that the app excludes from backup and from transfer to a new device. On a new device, the app reads them from Health Connect again once you allow it.
This is a feature of your device and your Google account, not of BrockGym: we have no access to this backup. The party responsible is Google (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland); Google’s privacy policy applies. You can turn off backup in the Android settings (depending on the device under “Google → Backup” or “System → Backup”). The app then continues to work unchanged, just without backup.
BrockGym can read data from Health Connect, Android’s health data store. This happens only if you turn it on in the app and allow access for the individual data types in the Health Connect permission dialog. Without this permission, the app keeps working: you then enter your weight yourself, and values that can only come from Health Connect (such as heart rate) are not shown.
Only the following data types are read, each for the stated purpose:
Access is read-only: BrockGym does not write any data to Health Connect and does not change or delete anything there. The values read are processed only on your device. Where the app needs them for histories, it stores them in its own storage area (section 3). They are not transmitted to us or to third parties, are not included in the statistics described in section 7, are not used for advertising, are not sold and are not passed on. They are not included in the backup by Android either (section 4).
BrockGym displays the values and their history. The app does not evaluate them medically and does not make a diagnosis.
The use of data from Health Connect complies with the Health Connect Permissions Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The legal basis is your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR), which you give by granting access in Health Connect.
You can revoke access at any time: in Health Connect under “App permissions” → BrockGym (depending on the device via the Health Connect app or the Android settings). After that, the app no longer reads anything. Values already imported remain stored in BrockGym; they are deleted when you uninstall the app.
BrockGym only asks for permissions that a feature actually needs:
The app does not request your location, uses neither the camera nor the microphone and does not access your photos, contacts or files.
To understand which features are actually used, the app counts anonymously via TelemetryDeck. Only the fact that an event occurred is transmitted:
Each event is accompanied by technical context data that TelemetryDeck collects itself: app and Android version, device manufacturer and model, screen size, language and region settings, time zone, accessibility settings (such as text size), whether the app was installed via Google Play, a random session identifier and usage counters (date of first use, number of sessions and days of use).
Not transmitted are: weights, repetitions, RIR values, the exact workout duration, body weight, body fat, measurements, values from Health Connect (heart rate, distance, calories and all others), exercise names, notes, your name, your year of birth, your email address and your location.
No account is created, no advertising ID is used and no profile of you is built. TelemetryDeck assigns events to a device using a pseudonymous identifier. It is created as a random value on the device at first launch, is transmitted only as a hash and cannot be traced back to your device or to you. It applies only to this app and stays the same as long as the app is installed; with the backup by Android it may move to a new device. It is not linked with data from other companies. The data is not used for tracking and is not sold.
The provider of the service is TelemetryDeck GmbH, Von-der-Tann-Str. 54, 86159 Augsburg, Germany. The signals are already anonymised on the device; TelemetryDeck contractually guarantees not to receive any data that would allow individual persons to be identified, and uses its own service providers for operation and hosting. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in an app that works and is developed further in line with users’ needs (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
You can object at any time (Art. 21 GDPR): in the app at the very bottom of the “Privacy policy” page (Settings → Privacy), switch “Send anonymous statistics”. The statistics are turned on by default. When you turn them off, exactly one last message is sent stating that they were turned off; after that, nothing more is transmitted.
You buy BrockGym Pro via Google Play (Play Billing). Sale, payment and billing are handled via your Google account. The party responsible for the data involved is Google (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland); Google’s privacy policy applies. We receive no payment details, that is, no card number, no bank details, no name and no email address. The app only learns from Google Play which purchases are valid for your account, so that it can unlock Pro.
For the statistics described in section 7, a purchase is counted without payment details. If the statistics are turned off, this does not happen either.
To show you that a newer version of BrockGym is available on Google Play, the app queries the Play Store app on your device at most every six hours (Google Play’s “In-app updates” interface). The query runs via the Google Play services on the device; BrockGym does not connect to any server of our own for this, and we receive no data. Google’s privacy policy applies. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in informing you about updates (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Via the CSV export (Settings → Plan & backup), the app creates a file containing your training data and opens Android’s share menu. You choose yourself where the file goes, for example to a files app, into an email or to a cloud storage service. What happens to the file afterwards is up to you and the service you choose.
Via “Suggest an improvement” and “Report a bug”, the app opens a prepared email to kontakt@brockdesign.de in your email app. It contains the app version, Android version, device model and language setting, visible in the text, so that you can read and delete them before sending. Training data is never included. We process your message only in order to reply to it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and delete it as soon as the matter has been dealt with and no retention obligation applies.
The website with these texts is hosted by Netlify (Netlify, Inc., San Francisco, USA). When the website is accessed, the provider processes technically necessary connection data such as IP address, time and page accessed. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object (Art. 21), as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. Since we do not store any of your training data and the statistics are pseudonymous, this mainly concerns emails you send us. Questions about data protection: kontakt@brockdesign.de
